We made it to Mammoth California on the way to Portland.
We took the long, slow scenic route from Phoenix to Portland through Redlands, Mammoth and Susanville California and Bend Oregon. The sights and smells were incredible along the way.
Day 1 – Phoenix to Redlands
We stopped in Redlands to spend the night so we could see one of Dad’s best friends Les and his wife and kids. Alas they had the chance to vacation that weekend so we missed them. We slept in Motel 6 (dogs are free) in Redlands that was a bit scary, I ran into 3 different Pit Bulls when Dad and I walked. They did not act friendly. Really glad they were on leashes.
Dad took me to Brookside Park so I could run around. I had to stay on the long leash, there were lots of people but they were all really friendly.
My bed for the night
On day 2 we drove to Mammoth, California.
On the way I got to sit in the front seat!
And even nap.
I wonder why there is a naval base in the middle of Death Valley?
We stopped at Diaz Lake so I could swim and Dad could stretch his legs. Did I tell you how much I like to play in water?
When we got to Mammoth we went hiking on Sherwin Lakes Trail.
I got to play in the creek!
It was a pretty steep hike for about 1 ½ hours. The scenery was great!

That night we slept in a Motel 6 again. It was much better than Redlands!
