Headed Home Days 2 and 3

Dad and I left Steamboat springs pretty early and headed south.

We drove a while until we turned off the main road to a trailhead we had hiked last year, Avalanche Creek Trail.

The trail head is between Glenwood Springs and Redstone, Colorado and we hiked 2.7 miles from the trailhead to the bridge over Hell Roaring Creek for an out and back of 5.4 miles. The altitude at the trail head is 7200 feet and the bridge crossing was at an altitude of 8269 feet.  This year it took Dad and I 1 hour and 10 minutes to get to the bridge.  It took a lot longer than that last year, wonder if Mom held us up??  Just kidding, Dogs do have a sense of humor you know.

The trail  is really pretty and it was a cool day.  There was thunder though not very far away.
Along the way the trail crosses Avalanche Creek several times, a great chance for a dog to swim.
Can’t swim too much.  Glad I got a drink here too!
The trees looked cool in the sun and dark clouds
We got to the bridge and had a treat, dad had a Luna Bar.
We did not stay too long because of the clouds and thunder.
It rained on us on the way down the trail but it was kinda fun. The sun broke out again and we stopped for a swim, maybe I should say I stopped for a swim.  Humans don’t know what they are missing not swimming in a mountain creek.
The hike and swims tired me out.  Dad was driving so he could not nap. Dogs are lucky.
We stopped a couple of times along the road to take pictures near Telluride.
The next real stop was for Puppy Chow!!  The only thing I like better than playing in a mountain creek.
Dad told me next time we travel like this we would pack a tent and sleeping bag and sleep somewhere just like this not in a cheap motel in Gallup, NM.
I hope he is telling the truth!
It was 59 degrees and beautiful!
I got to run around a sniff.  Still tired from the hike but needed to stretch my legs.
The rest of the trip home was kinda boring.  We drove out of Colorado to New Mexico.  The mountains disappeared and it was hot!
We stopped and slept in Gallup and headed out early in the morning for Phoenix.
It was nice to take a nap on my pad at home but boy it is hot in Phoenix!!
It was another great summer with Mom and Dad.
I already miss my BFF Fizz.  I hope I get to play with her again soon.
